NIGERIA’s PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has praised the deepening trade relationship between Africa and China, noting its significant growth to $280 billion.
Speaking at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, Tinubu highlighted the robust economic ties and expanded integration between the two regions.
Tinubu emphasized the enduring commitment China has shown towards Africa.
He described this partnership as one based on mutual respect, sovereignty, and non-interference.
He stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in peaceful dialogue, transparent business practices, and conflict resolution.
Addressing the diverse audience, including other African and Chinese leaders and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Tinubu noted that FOCAC has been vital in reinforcing economic connections and mutual progress.
He praised China’s role in supporting Africa through financial aid and cultural exchange, pointing out the establishment of Chinese cultural centers and institutes across Africa.
Tinubu also linked the China-Africa trade growth with the Belt and Road Initiative, aligning it with Africa’s infrastructure goals under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.
He underscored the importance of their joint efforts in shaping a multipolar world, embracing diverse perspectives, and addressing global challenges.
Chinese President Xi Jinping echoed these sentiments, highlighting that China and Africa together represent a third of the global population. He announced ten new partnership actions aimed at deepening cooperation in areas such as green development, common security, and mutual learning among civilizations.
Xi Jinping’s proposed actions include enhancing people-to-people exchanges, boosting trade and industrial chain cooperation, and advancing agricultural and health initiatives. He called for a commitment to multilateralism and innovation to ensure sustainable peace and development.
