NIGERIA’s PRESIDENT, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 19th Heads of State and Government Summit of the Group of 20 (G20).
The President touched down at 11:03 p.m. local time on Sunday (3:03 a.m. Monday, Nigerian time) and was welcomed by Ambassador Breno Costa from Brazil’s Ministry of External Relations.
The Nigerian delegation includes key ministers such as Yusuf Tuggar (Foreign Affairs), Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Livestock Development), Hannatu Musawa (Art, Tourism, Culture and Creativity), Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (State for Agriculture and Food Security), and Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed (Director General, National Intelligence Agency).
President Tinubu, invited by Brazilian President Lula da Silva, will participate in the summit under the theme, “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.”
The gathering focuses on economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development and global governance reform.
Key topics include climate change, digital economy principles, the Israel-Hamas conflict, and geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and China.
Representatives from 19 member countries and the African and European Unions will join the summit to finalize agreements negotiated during Brazil’s rotational presidency, which concludes on November 30, 2024.
