ACCELERATING GLOBAL sustainable progress remains a critical concern, with world leaders convening in Abu Dhabi for the 2025 edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW).

The event, hosted annually for over 15 years, is a global platform for advancing socioeconomic development through sustainable practices and innovative partnerships.

President Bola Tinubu departs Abuja on Saturday, January 11, to participate in this year’s Summit.

President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan had extended the invitation to the Nigerian leader.

The Summit, themed “The Nexus of Next; Supercharging Sustainable Progress,” will take place in Abu Dhabi from January 12 to 18, gathering policymakers, business executives, and civil society leaders.

A statement notes that the event’s agenda includes discussions on accelerating the transition to a sustainable economy and fostering an era of prosperity through multi-stakeholder collaboration.

Over the years, ADSW has facilitated high-value agreements and strategic partnerships among governments, industry leaders, and clean energy innovators.

It has driven impactful initiatives that address global challenges and promote sustainable development worldwide.

During the Summit, President Tinubu will deliver a keynote speech detailing his administration’s reforms.

He is expected to highlight initiatives aimed at improving energy sufficiency, modernising transportation systems, enhancing public health, and driving economic growth.

These reforms reflect Nigeria’s commitment to aligning with global sustainability goals while advancing the nation’s development agenda.

The Nigerian delegation will also use the opportunity to engage with the emirate’s leadership.

Discussions will focus on issues of mutual interest, including economic collaboration and investment opportunities between the two nations.

Accompanying President Tinubu on this trip are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and other senior government officials.

This high-level participation proves Nigeria’s commitment to playing an active role in global conversations on sustainable development.

The President and his entourage are expected to return to Nigeria on Thursday, January 16, according to a statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
