PBAT Unveils Cutting-Edge Data Complex to Boost Border Security and Migration Efficiency

A BOLD step in strengthening Nigeria’s national security and migration management has been taken with the unveiling of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC) at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters in Abuja.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned the state-of-the-art facility on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation agenda.

The Data Complex incorporates advanced features such as the Command and Control Centre for regular migration, an NIS Data Centre, the ECOWAS Biometric Card Production Centre, an Interior Data Centre, and a 0.5KW solar power plant.

In her opening address, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, highlighted the centre’s ability to detect irregular migration, assess risks associated with persons entering Nigeria, and monitor unmanned borders, especially in remote areas.

She described it as a benchmark for leveraging technology to secure Nigeria’s borders and enhance national security.

The facility serves as a central repository for NIS’s digital infrastructure, enabling efficient data management, border surveillance, and seamless analysis of migration patterns.

It aligns with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Tinubu’s administration, which aims to use technology to drive security improvements, foster economic growth, and improve public services.

Present at the event were the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Management, Festus Keyamo, the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and several agency heads.

The complex is reportedly the first of its kind in Africa as it sets new standards in migration and border management systems.

It is also described as reflecting the government’s commitment to integrating technology into national governance for the benefit of all citizens.
