STATE GOVERNORS hold the key to Nigeria’s development and prosperity, President Bola Tinubu emphasised during a New Year homage by Vice President Kashim Shettima and members of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos.
The President highlighted the critical role of subnational leadership in addressing challenges like food security, agricultural productivity, and grassroots development.
“The Federal Government takes about 30 to 35 per cent of the allocated revenue; the rest goes to you. The agricultural value chain is in your hands. You own the land, and the job is yours,” he said.
Tinubu also dispelled rumours of conflicts with the governors over local government autonomy, calling for unity.
“We will not fight within ourselves. Let’s collaborate and ensure development at the grassroots. Together, we can restore hope and build a better Nigeria.”
He urged prioritisation of agriculture to stabilise the economy and strengthen the nation’s currency.
“We must grow more, work harder, and ensure Nigeria sees prosperity through consistent effort from all of us,” he added.
A statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), issued January 1, 2025, notes the Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, chair of the NGF, lauding the administration’s policies, citing progress in agriculture and improved funding for state projects.
“We are encouraging bumper harvest storage to ensure food security. The policies are working, and governors stand firmly behind the President’s vision,” Abdulrazaq said.
The President then announced plans to visit Enugu State on January 4 as part of his nationwide tour.
He also welcomed his recognition as ThisDAY’s Man of the Year, describing it as an acknowledgment of the administration’s achievements.
