Deputy Governor Barr. ‘Bayo Lawal highlighted these achievements during the 2024 National Environmental Sanitation Day (NESD) celebrations, emphasizing the state’s commitment to cleanliness and health.
The NESD, themed “Environmental Sanitation in the Era of Climate Change,” Lawal noted, stresses the importance of hygiene and environmental care.
He said Oyo State observed the event on July 9, 2024, aligning efforts with national goals.
Barr. Lawal also stressed proactive measures, including heightened medical vigilance and rapid response to suspected cases, crucial in preventing cholera spread and commended ongoing policies promoting a cleaner environment and climate resilience across the state.
Residents were urged to adopt healthier lifestyles and refrain from improper waste disposal, pivotal in maintaining public health.
The Deputy Governor further inaugurated symbolic street cleaning at Itesiwaju Market and Agodi Car Park, urging public collaboration in environmental stewardship.
Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, echoed the call for collective responsibility in environmental sanitation as he led sensitization campaigns and tree planting at Oje Market, promoting community engagement in maintaining clean surroundings.
The event garnered support from dignitaries including the State Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, and Commissioners for Information and Women Affairs, underscoring a unified commitment to environmental safety and public health.
