GLOBAL COLLABORATION is crucial to overcoming Africa’s energy crisis and driving sustainable economic growth, Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has emphasised.
Speaking at the 10th Powering Africa Summit (PAS25) in Washington, DC, held from March 6-7, 2025, he highlighted the need for deeper partnerships between Africa and the United States to combat energy poverty and accelerate development.
Representing Nigeria at the summit, Adelabu acknowledged the progress made through initiatives such as Power Africa, which has significantly expanded electricity access, attracted investments, and advanced policy reforms across the continent.
Themed ‘The Future of the US and Africa Energy Partnership’, the summit, sponsored by Sun Africa, convened African leaders, global investors, and energy experts to explore solutions to the continent’s power challenges.
Adelabu praised the newly launched ‘Mission 300’, an ambitious initiative aimed at connecting 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030.
He urged stakeholders to strengthen partnerships to achieve this target, reiterating Nigeria’s commitment to technology transfer, infrastructure development, and capacity building to facilitate a seamless energy transition.
A key moment at PAS25 was Adelabu’s meeting with US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright.
Wright reaffirmed the United States’ dedication to working alongside African nations to eradicate energy poverty, promote sustainability, and expand investments in renewable energy and off-grid solutions.
He expressed optimism about deepening collaboration with Nigeria and other African countries to bolster private-sector involvement in the energy sector.
The summit also served as a platform for fostering strategic partnerships with global investors, establishing policy frameworks for Africa’s energy sector growth, and unlocking investment opportunities to enhance Nigeria’s and Africa’s energy infrastructure.
Adelabu’s participation at PAS25 affirmed Nigeria’s determination to drive energy access and economic transformation.
The discussions and commitments from the summit also reinforced the immense potential of stronger US-Africa cooperation in shaping a sustainable and electrified future for millions across the continent.
