OYO State government has received commendations for its dedicated efforts in combating the spread of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS), within the state, resulting in a significant drop in the disease’s prevalence.
Dr. Temitope Ilori, the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), expressed this commendation during a familiarization tour to the State Ministry of Health where he lauded the state government and the Oyo agency for the Control of AIDS (CASA) for their effective collaboration in the national response to eradicating HIV/AIDS.
Highlighting Oyo SACA’s proactive approach through community and media engagements such as jingles and documentaries, Dr. Ilori emphasized the agency’s pivotal role in public engagement.
Acknowledging Oyo State’s efforts in implementing the political declaration advocating for widespread for widespread testing and treatment, Dr. Ilori noted the positive outcomes aligning with global targets.
Dr. Ilori called for increased partnerships to enhance outreach efforts, emphasizing the readiness of the national response team to provide support.
In response, Dr. Oluwaseremi Ajetunmobi, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, underscored the importance of individual responsibility in managing health and affirmed the state’s commitment to community engagement, including collaboration with religious leaders.
Dr. Kehinde Ayinde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, highlighted the state’s leadership in implementing HIV/AIDS programmes, emphasizing the extensive network of delivery points and community testing initiatives. The visit also saw the presence of Dr. Gbola Adetunji, Chairman of Oyo CASA, and other state functionaries, demonstrating a collective commitment to addressing the HIV/AIDS challenge.
