DRUG TRAFICKING in Nigeria suffered a major blow as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) personnel arrested multiple suspects and seized large quantities of illegal substances in separate operations across the country.
At Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, operatives apprehended Osuoha Christian Iheanacho, 50, for ingesting 90 wraps of cocaine weighing 2.019kg.
Actually, intelligence and surveillance efforts culminated in his interception after he arrived from Addis Ababa.
The suspect confessed he intended to fund his declining phone business through drug trafficking.
In Lagos, a coordinated operation dismantled a cocaine distribution cartel led by Ndive Maxwell Obinna, 42, with five associates arrested.
Moreover, the officers recovered 2.412kg of cocaine.
In a separately situation, a Chinese man, Tianzhen Yen, was arrested in Ikeja for heading a trans-border syndicate.
He was linked to 750g of cocaine seized from an accomplice and additional drugs and equipment found in his hotel room.
At Tincan Port, Lagos, 92 parcels of Loud cannabis weighing 23.25kg were found in imported vehicles.
Rivers State operatives intercepted two containers carrying 168,000 bottles of codeine syrup and 4.5 million tramadol pills worth over ₦4.3 billion.
In Ekiti, a physically challenged woman was caught with cannabis derivatives, while in Oyo and Edo states, over 1.7 tonnes of cannabis were seized during raids.
In Kano, operatives stopped four suspects transporting 45kg of cannabis, and in Bauchi, another suspect was arrested with 124kg.
In his usual commendation, Chairman NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa gave thumbs up to the officers for their relentless efforts, noting the agency’s commitment to reducing drug supply and promoting awareness through the War Against Drug Abuse campaign in schools and communities nationwide.
