GHANA’s PRESIDENT-Elect, John Dramani Mahama, is paying Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu a visit at the State House in Abuja.

The courtesy visit is coming a week after Ghana’s Electoral Commission declared Mahama, of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the winner of the 2024 presidential election.

In a statement, Nigeria’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that Tinubu praised Mahama’s opponent, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for conceding defeat gracefully.

Ahead of the official announcement, Dr Bawumia, Ghana’s Vice President and candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party, conceded defeat showcasing political maturity in Ghana’s democratic process.

President Tinubu had earlier congratulated Mahama in a telephone call before the visit, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to fostering stronger bilateral ties with Ghana.

He further highlighted shared values of democracy, cultural heritage, and economic integration as pivotal for a prosperous West African region.

Mahama, a former President of Ghana (2012–2017) and Vice President (2009–2012), expressed his readiness to collaborate on deepening ties and advancing mutual interests.

Moreover, Tinubu also emphasised the importance of unity and cooperation between both nations to address regional challenges and achieve Pan-African objectives.
