THE UNIVERSITY of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced that two graduates will be recognised for achieving a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0 during the institution’s 55th Convocation for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Professor Folasade Ogunsola, Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, disclosed this at an international press conference to unveil the programme of events for the convocation.
She highlighted that out of 9,684 undergraduates, 561 achieved first-class honours, representing a remarkable academic feat.
In total, UNILAG says it will confer degrees on 16,343 students for the session, comprising 9,684 undergraduates and 6,658 postgraduate students.
A breakdown of the results shows that 3,916 students earned Second Class Upper Division degrees, 3,763 received Second Class Lower, 1,143 graduated with Third Class, 78 obtained Pass, and 223 had unclassified grades.
Also, the Faculty of Management Sciences produced the highest number of first-class graduates, with 175 students earning the top honours.
Moreover, the Faculty of Science followed with 121 first-class graduates, while the Faculty of Engineering produced 61.
Professor Ogunsola expressed pride in the graduates’ accomplishments, particularly the two individuals who earned the exceptional CGPA of 5.0.
She also described the achievement as a testament to the university’s commitment to academic excellence.
She further noted that the convocation is scheduled to span several days and will also feature the conferment of honourary degrees on distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to society and the advancement of knowledge.
