SET TO address the pressing need for stronger policy direction within the party’s ranks is the newly unveiled Progressive Institute, established by the All Progressives Congress (APC) last Friday in Abuja.
With this initiative, the APC says it aims to bolster its role in shaping good governance through in-depth research and inclusive policymaking.
The institute’s launch comes at a time when many are questioning the effectiveness of government policies.
APC’s top officials stressed that the new think tank would offer expert analysis and policy advice to help improve governance at all levels.
It will also focus on assessing the performance of APC-led governments, ensuring they meet the needs of citizens through effective implementation of their programs.
The institute will further foster collaboration between the party, academia, civil society, and the media.
By creating a platform for open discussions, it will offer insights on how to tackle key challenges in governance and leadership recruitment.
This will help the party refine its policy strategies and ensure that governments elected under its banner are better equipped to handle Nigeria’s complex socio-political issues.
Speaking, Dr. Lanre Adenayo, Director-General of the Progressive Institute, emphasized the importance of research-driven policymaking.
He stated that the institute is determined to develop innovative strategies that will address critical governance problems and promote sustainable development.
By bringing together experts and stakeholders, the institute will guide the APC’s future governance strategies.
Governor Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), noted that the institute reflects the APC’s commitment to welfare-focused policies.
He added that it will provide the party with a valuable resource for strengthening its leadership recruitment process, improving policy frameworks, and enhancing the democratic process in Nigeria.
He also notes that the Progressive Institute, already registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and certified by the Ministries of Justice and Education, is set to play a key role in shaping Nigeria’s governance landscape.
Its contributions are expected to impact policy discussions across various sectors, further improving the country’s governance standards, among others, Uzodima stated.
Other leaders at the event echoed the sentiment that APC’s policy capacity must evolve with the country’s socio-political landscape.
They agreed that as the party continues to lead in several states and at the federal level, there is increased pressure to meet the demands of citizens by fostering good governance.
The think tank is expected to play a pivotal role in guiding the APC’s future, ensuring that its elected officials have access to expert policy recommendations.
This will further solidify the party’s commitment to democratic ideals, governance reforms, and leadership development.
