OPENING OF nominations for the 7th Edition of the Gani Fawehinmi Impact and Integrity Awards (GFIIA 2024) has been announced by the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) Resource Centre.
GFIIA is prestigious event named after the late renowned human rights activist and legal expert Chief Gani Fawehinmi, and aims to recognize and honour individuals who demonstrate exceptional integrity and have made significant contributions to societal progress.
Olarenwaju Suraju, HEDA’s Chairman, expressed the organization’s commitment to celebrating those who embody the principles upheld by Chief Fawehinmi.
“These awards are designed to spotlight individuals who maintain transparency, honesty, and integrity in their endeavors, resisting the pervasive temptations of corruption and unethical behaviour,” Suraju asserted.
The awards’ board, led by Professor Itse Sagay and co-chaired by Professor Ayo Atsenua, includes notable members such as Comrade Femi Aborisade, Professor Nsogorua Udombana, Dr. Abiola Akiode-Afolabi, Comrade Achike Achude, Mr. Femi Falana SAN, and Mr. Olarenwaju Suraju, who are all dedicated to recognizing those who make outstanding contributions to society.
The nomination period for GFIIA 2024 started on Monday, June 24, 2024, and will close on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
Following this, there will be a two-week process of collation, shortlisting, and board feedback, ending on September 16, 2024.
Voting is scheduled from Monday, September 23 to Friday, October 18, 2024, with the awards ceremony set for December 10, 2024.
According to the organizers, this year’s awards feature four categories: the Outstanding Integrity Award, Outstanding Impact Award, Valuable Whistle-blower Award, and Nigerians in Diaspora Integrity Ambassador Award, encouraging broad public participation. The public can submit nominations through the official portal at www.gfa.hedang.org.
They also notes that HEDA Resource Centre continues to honour Chief Gani Fawehinmi’s legacy by promoting integrity, transparency, and accountability in Nigeria and the GFIIA remain a vital platform for celebrating those who make substantial positive impacts on society.
