Oborevwori Vows Tough Measures Against Officials Certifying Substandard Projects

By JKNewsMedia

CERTIFYING INCOMPLETE or substandard projects for payment will not be tolerated in Delta State, according to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Speaking on Sunday during a retirement thanksgiving service for the Permanent Secretary and Accountant-General of the Delta State Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Joy Enwa, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring Deltans receive full value for all state projects.

At the service held at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Asaba, Governor Oborevwori revealed that two engineers had been queried for approving payment certificates on uncompleted projects.

He expressed his dissatisfaction with civil servants undermining the state’s developmental goals, emphasising that disciplinary measures would follow due process.

“This message is timely,” the Governor remarked, referring to the sermon titled “The Choice of a Good Name.”

He urged civil servants to uphold integrity in their duties.

“Two civil servants have been issued queries for certifying jobs that were incomplete. Next week, their names will be announced, and appropriate actions taken,” he added.

Oborevwori highlighted his administration’s commitment to the welfare of state workers, listing achievements such as transport allowances after subsidy removal, ₦5.6 billion paid in promotion arrears, and the swift implementation of the New National Minimum Wage.

“Since I assumed office, I’ve done everything to meet the needs of civil servants. What else do they need?” he asked, emphasising that ethical conduct is non-negotiable in his government.

The Governor congratulated Mrs. Enwa on her successful career, describing her as a model civil servant whose dedication earned respect from colleagues and dignitaries.

“The calibre of people here today to celebrate her speaks volumes about her service record,” he said.

The Bishop of the Asaba Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Kingsley Obuh, who delivered the sermon, stressed the importance of integrity and good reputation, urging those in leadership positions to focus on building legacies for posterity.

“A good name is earned through honourable behaviour, moral courage, and personal integrity,” he said, commending Governor Oborevwori for his developmental strides.

Bishop Obuh advised Mrs. Enwa to dedicate her retirement to serving God and humanity, reminding all attendees that positions of power are temporary, but the legacies left behind endure.
