GOVERNOR BABAJIDE Sanwo-Olu’s ‘Eko Cares’ initiatives continue to receive widespread praise for addressing economic challenges across Lagos State.
Launched in April, these initiatives aim to ease the economic hardships faced by over 500,000 households across the state.
It also focuses on critical areas such as transportation, education, health, and agriculture.
Through ‘Eko Cares,’ the Lagos State government has rolled out several supportive programmes.
These include ‘Alafia Eko,’ which provides free health screenings and treatments, and ‘Ounje Eko’ Sunday Market, which offers affordable food options.
Other programmes like ‘Eko Fund Me’ and ‘Owo Isowo Eko’ provide financial aid and support to small businesses.
The Permanent Secretary of Lagos Health District 1, Dr. Funmilayo Bankole, highlighted the importance of ‘Alafia Eko’ in promoting the health and well-being of Lagosians.
“We screen residents for conditions like hypertension and diabetes to prevent complications,” she explained.
At a recent ‘Alafia Eko’ event in Mushin LGA, beneficiaries expressed their gratitude.
Mr. Tajudeen Adebowale shared his excitement, saying, “We are very happy about this initiative.
May God bless the governor to continue these efforts, especially in healthcare.”
Similar sentiments were echoed at the Meiran intervention, where Alhaja Ajani Badru expressed her relief.
“Medications are expensive, but today we received treatment at no cost. We are grateful to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration,” she said.
Mr. Adekojo Samuel also thanked the Governor for providing eye tests, medication, and eyeglasses.
In Isolo, Mr. Iyanu Temituro praised the organization of the programme and the approachable medical personnel. “I’m receiving treatment for stooling and blood pressure and excellently managed.”
Mr. Abiodun Ayodele from Surulere was impressed by the generosity of the initiative. “I appreciate what the Governor has done. The drugs and new eyeglasses I received are invaluable.”
In Apapa LGA, residents like Mrs. Tawa Yusuf and Mrs. Oloofa Bola celebrated the governor’s efforts, dedicating songs to him in Yoruba. They, along with others, received free eyeglasses, drugs, and medical care, describing the health initiative as a significant achievement and relief.
Dr. Saheed Tajudeen, a volunteer at the Igbogbo, Ikorodu outreach, expressed his satisfaction with the turnout. “Many in the community don’t visit our Primary Health Centre, so bringing medical care to their doorsteps is commendable,” he remarked.
The ‘Eko Cares’ initiative, supervised by the Special Dispensation Advisory Committee on Social Interventions (SPEDAC), remains a vital support system for Lagos residents during these challenging times.
