National Power Grid Now Fixed – TCN Confirms

THE Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announces the swift recovery of the power grid following its abrupt collapse on Thursday at 4.28pm.

In a statement released on Friday, TCN affirms the restoration to full capacity by 10.00pm the same day.

Despite challenges, including gas constraints affecting generation capacity, TCN’s spokesperson Ndid Mabh expresses optimism for returning power to normalcy soon.

The disturbance, originating from a significant drop in generation capacity, led to a rapid decline in system frequency, triggering an imbalance in the grid.

The subsequent tripping of Egbin generation Turbine 3 exacerbate the situation, resulting in a loss of 167MW load and the eventual collapse of the grid.

Mbah assures the public of TCN’s commitment to resolving grid challenges and collaborating with stakeholders to minimize disruptions.

This development follows nationwide blackout experienced on Thursday in major cities like Lagos and Abuja. The International Energy Agency reported 46 grid collapses between 2017 and 2023, with Nigerians enduring frequent blackouts, notably on September 14, 2023, due to a transmission line fire.

In addressing ongoing power issues, Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, pledges resolutions within three to six months. He lights plans to settle outstanding debts with gas suppliers, potentially resolving gas constraints and stabilizing power generation.
