Nigeria Plummets into Darkness Anew as National Grip Flops

By JKNMedia

NIGERIANS face another bout of nationwide blackout yesterday, Thursday, as the national electricity grip collapsed, leaving millions without power.

This marks the second grid plunge within three months in 2024, raising concerns about the reliability of the country’s power infrastructure.

The collapse, which occurred at approximately 4.30pm yesterday, disrupted electricity supply across various regions.

Distribution companies (DisCos) like the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), and the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) promptly informed customers about the outage via their social media handle.

AEDC stated: “The system collapsed at about 16.28 hours today (yesterday), 28th March 2024, causing the outage currently being experienced across our franchise area. We appeal for your understanding as all stakeholders are working hard to restore normal supply.”

Similarly, EKEDC confirmed the system collapse, assuring customers of efforts to restore power swiftly.

The recent incident adds to a series of grip collapses experienced in the previous year. In 2023, Nigeria encountered power grip collapses occurring multiple times, according to reports from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The frequency of grip collapses underscores the challenges facing Nigeria’s power sectors, prompting calls for urgent interventions from various stakeholders within the country on the need to stabilize the grip so as to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.
