Ogun Gov Donates Patrol Vans, Acquires Surveillance Drones to Boost State Security Arsenal

DEMONSTRATING a strong commitment to enhancing security measures in the state, Governor Dapo Abiodun has made a donation of 25 patrol vehicles to the state police command.

He also acquired surveillance drones for the police to monitor criminal activities in the state effectively.

The event took place at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta and witnessed by Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun.

Abiodun emphasized the importance of incorporating technology into crime-fighting efforts, stating that the acquisition of drones were proactive step in collaborating with neighbouring Lagos and Oyo States,

The drones, he noted, will be deployed to monitor activities on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, ensuring prompt responses to emergency situations.

Operated by trained personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), these drones mark a significant advancement in surveillance capabilities.

Expressing gratitude to the law enforcement community, Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security initiatives, saying that over the past four-and-a-half years, the state has procured over 100 patrol vehicles and motorcycles, along with 300 communication gadgets for security agencies.

The governor commended IGP Egbetokun for his leadership and dedication to improving the police force’s performance, and highlighted the IGP’s efforts in redesigning operational strategies and administrative policies, and as well emphasized the importance of community policing and technological advancement.

Responding, IGP Egbetokun commended the acquisition of the drones and emphasized the potential to enhance the state’s security infrastructure, calling on other states to follow suit in adopting modern technology to safeguard their communities.

He described the donation of patrol vehicles and acquisition of drones as measures that signify Ogun state’s proactive approach to ensuring the safety and security of its residents, noting that with strengthened collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the integration of cutting-edge technology; the state is poised to effectively combat crime and maintain peace and stability.
