Ogun State Embarks on Major Road Projects, Unveils N1.05Trn Budget for Development

Years of neglect and poor infrastructure in Ogun State are coming to an end as the government intensifies efforts to rehabilitate key road networks and implement ambitious development projects.

Construction on the 17-kilometre Sango-Ijoko road is set to begin immediately, with the Alagbole-Ajuwon-Akute road in Ifo Local Government Area scheduled for commissioning by February 2025.

During an inspection of ongoing roadworks, Governor Dapo Abiodun confirmed the commencement of construction on the Sango-Ijoko road, starting with its worst-hit sections.

He also highlighted the completion of the Alagbole-Akute stretch and assured residents of progress on the remaining 3.25-kilometre Ajuwon-Akute section.

“By God’s grace, by the end of February, it will be totally complete,” the Governor stated.

Ogun residents welcomed the development with gratitude.

Ifo CDC Chairman, Alhaji Akangbe Olatunde, commended the government’s efforts, calling the projects a source of joy for the community.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Hadijat Adeleye, noted the suffering endured by residents due to years of neglect, adding that this progress marks a turning point for the area.

Unveils N1.05Trn Budget for Development

Meanwhile, Ogun State’s N1.05 trillion budget for 2025 signals a commitment to infrastructure, education, and agriculture.

Chief Economic Adviser and Finance Commissioner, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, explained that the budget, up from N703 billion in 2024, reflects reforms aimed at fostering growth.

He said the revenue projection includes N194 billion from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, N121 billion from Internal Revenue, and N228 million from federal allocation.

Also, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr Olaolu Olabimtan, disclosed that the budget allocates N600 billion for capital projects and N400 billion for recurrent expenditures.

He said the education sector alone will receive N178 billion, as Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, outlined plans to construct 12 mega smart schools, renovate classrooms, and provide essential amenities.

Alsp, agriculture remains a priority, with the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, detailing efforts to revitalise farm settlements and expand dry-season farming.

He noted that these initiatives are expected to boost productivity and improve food security across the state.
