OYO STATE Government announced that applicants without a Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) license can still apply for teaching positions on the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) job portal.
Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, the Executive Chairman of OYOSUBEB, clarified this policy during a weekly program on Fresh FM, Ibadan.
From June 25 to July 9, 2024, the state opened its job portal for primary school teachers. Adeniran emphasized that while teachers must eventually obtain a TRCN license, this requirement will not hinder their initial employment.
He explained that the TRCN license would be essential for future promotions within the state teaching service.
Adeniran addressed concerns regarding the eligibility of teachers with only an NCE certificate, acknowledging the importance of the TRCN license but stressing the disservice of denying prospective applicants the chance to apply and assured that these applicants could register with the council while on the job.
Encouraging holders of National Certificates on Education (NCE), as well as B.A. and B.Sc. degrees, to apply before the deadline, Adeniran highlighted the state’s commitment to standardizing the teaching profession.
He also noted that licensed TRCN teachers would have added advantages during the selection process. The government plans to recruit 7,000 teachers, ensuring that only qualified candidates undergo a comprehensive examination process, including written and oral stages.
Adeniran revealed that the application portal had received over 55,000 applications as of this morning.
Then to motivate teachers, the Board aims to deploy each teacher within their local government area of residence and also mentioned that religious questions would not be part of the computer-based testing to maintain fairness.
Advising applicants to prepare for the next stages of the recruitment process, Adeniran assured that the Board would only employ suitably qualified candidates.
