TODAY IN Ibadan, the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, announced that stringent measures aimed at averting a potential cholera outbreak are being put in place in public basic schools across the state.
The Chairman revealed the proactive stance of the state government in safeguarding the health and well-being of students, urging strict adherence to hygiene protocols by food handlers, emphasizing the crucial role of head teachers in ensuring compliance with these measures, and stressing the need for collective responsibility among parents, guardians, and school authorities.
ON collaboration with Education Secretaries, Head Teachers, and stakeholders was highlighted as essential to enforce these directives effectively, Dr. Adediran said an advisory has been issued to stress the significance of hand hygiene, advocating for the regular use of hand sanitizers and thorough handwashing, particularly before meals and after using the restroom.
He further recommended that schools maintain stocks of Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) in their clinics to promptly manage cases of dehydration and urged immediate reporting of any suspected cholera cases or health emergencies to the State emergency hotline, 615.
In addition to these measures, Dr. Adeniran outlined other state’s plans which includes regular health education sessions on cholera prevention for both students and staff, along with promoting safe drinking water practices within school premises.
