THE OYO State Government has strongly criticized the damage inflicted on a recently refurbished section of the Olusoji-WCCI road, just days after its official reopening.
A viral video captured the aftermath of a truck accident that resulted in the destruction of the road segment.
Chairman of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency, ‘Busoye Ogunlade, expressed his dismay over the incident, attributing it to a truck carrying over 60 tonnes of cement that lost control due to brake failure.
He condemned the driver’s hasty departure from the scene, labeling it as cowardly.
“The Agency received reports of vandalism on the newly rehabilitated Olusoji-WCCI road, notably the regrettable destruction caused by a fleeing truck driver,” Ogunlade stated.
He emphasized the strategic importance of the road in enhancing socio-economic activities within the state and beyond, noting its recent completion as part of ongoing efforts to improve local infrastructure.
Prompt response efforts by the Agency included immediate repairs to the damaged section and the sealing of the site where the incident occurred.
Ogunlade assured residents of swift action to restore the road’s integrity, highlighting ongoing inspections and reinforcement measures.
Additionally, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Architect Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, denounced the unauthorized construction of structures in Lagelu and Egbeda Local Government Council Areas.
Mogbonjubola promptly directed ministry officials to issue eviction notices promptly to affected property owners.
