WhatsApp to End Support for Older Android and iPhone Models in 2025

By JKNewsMedia

MILLIONS OF users will lose access to WhatsApp starting January 1, 2025, as Meta, the app’s parent company, discontinues support for older Android and iOS devices.

This decision targets improving app functionality and security through updates that older systems can no longer support.

Meta announced that Android devices running KitKat or older operating systems would be affected.

The impacted models include Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Motorola Moto G (1st Gen), HTC One X, LG Nexus 4, and Sony Xperia Z, among others.

Meta cited the inability of these devices to handle encryption updates, multi-device features, and new AI functionalities as a key reason.

For iPhone users, WhatsApp will work until May 5, 2025, on models running iOS 15.1 or earlier.

Devices such as iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6Plus must be updated to newer iOS versions or replaced.

Without upgrades, users risk losing access to the messaging platform.
