EFFORTS TO transform Asaba into a cleaner, safer, and more modern city have gained momentum, as the state government unveils ambitious infrastructure plans for 2025.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, during project inspections in the capital territory on Sunday, highlighted his administration’s commitment to enhanced urban development.
At the proposed site for the Asaba International Market, the governor stated that the initiative seeks to replace the old Abraka Market, previously marred by criminal activities.
He disclosed that groundbreaking would occur before the end of the month, with construction already underway.
“We won’t just approve projects from the office; we need to inspect and ensure they’re progressing as planned,” Oborevwori said.
The state has partnered with Efab Properties Limited for the market’s development, offering land in exchange for 20 percent of the project’s returns.
According to Oborevwori, the new market will not only boost commerce but also address long-standing security concerns.
The governor also inspected Gerald Onianwa Crescent, Odigwe Juwa Avenue, and the storm drainage system behind Asaba Specialist Hospital.
He emphasised the importance of road maintenance, noting that many roads require overlays due to age.
“In developed countries, roads are maintained regularly. We will adopt similar practices to keep our infrastructure in good condition,” he added.
Oborevwori further reiterated his vision for a cleaner, more organised capital territory.
He noted that ongoing cleanup efforts and infrastructure projects aim to uplift Asaba’s image and improve residents’ quality of life.
With these initiatives, the state government aims to position Asaba as a model of urban development, ensuring sustainable growth and security for its residents.
