AMID ONGOING economic challenges, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s progress under recent reforms.

He cited improved revenues, growing investments, and infrastructure milestones as evidence of transformation.

The remarks came during the 2025 Lagos Annual Thanksgiving Service, themed “Harvest of Thanksgiving,” held at the Tafawa Balewa Square.

Addressing attendees, the Governor reflected on the impact of tough economic decisions taken in 2024 under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

While acknowledging the hardships these reforms caused, he emphasised their long-term benefits, including macroeconomic stability and job creation.

Sanwo-Olu also celebrated Lagos’ advancements, such as the commissioning of the first phase of the Red Line rail project and the continued development of the Blue Line.

Other key initiatives included the food and logistics park and a new children’s hospital, both of which he described as significant contributions to healthcare and commerce in the state.

“The sacrifices Nigerians have made are already yielding positive results,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

He also highlighted the Nigerian stock market’s record-breaking close above the 100,000-mark in 2024 and the implementation of the new national minimum wage, with Lagos surpassing federal requirements.

The Governor further addressed the state’s ambitious plans for 2025, which include securing financing for a new international airport and expanding the municipal rail system.

He also disclosed that Lagos aims to implement the new Electricity Law to guarantee reliable power for its residents.

Sanwo-Olu commended the private sector’s role in the state’s growth, particularly the Dangote Refinery’s commencement of petrol production and the groundbreaking of the Lagos Arena, a 12,000-seat facility expected to revolutionise the arts and entertainment sector.

Diaspora engagement was another focus, as the Governor noted the significant influx of Nigerians returning to Lagos, viewing it as a testament to the state’s cultural and economic potential.

“We’ve seen an exciting glimpse of the opportunities that lie ahead,” he said, urging stakeholders to harness these resources for future development.

With a renewed focus on infrastructure, healthcare, housing, and security, Sanwo-Olu promised that Lagos would continue to thrive, building a vibrant city where dreams can flourish.
