Marine Police Retrieves Remaining Bodies from Junior Pope’s Tragedy

THE AFTERMATH of the devastating boat incident in Anambra State continues to unfold as Marine Police Command announced the recovery of three additional bodies of the crew members from the tragic incident.

The accident, which claimed the lives of famed Nollywood actor, Junior Pope and four others, sent shockwaves through the community and prompted urgent safety warnings.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, the bodies were retrieved during the ongoing investigation into the accident that occurred on Wednesday along the coastline of the River Niger.

The boat carrying a movie crew to a film location in Anambra West local governments area, met with disaster on its return journey to Asaba, Delta State.

The recovery effort, led by the diligent Marine Police Unit culminated in the retrieval of two bodies on April 11th, with the third body washed ashore early Friday morning. All recovered bodies have been respectfully deposited in a mortuary in Asaba, Delta State.

Responding to the tragedy, Commissioner of the Anambra State Police Command, Mr. Aderemi Adeoye, issued a stern reminder to all water commuters to prioritize safety and avoid any actions that could endanger their lives or the lives of others during water transit.

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has been informed of the latest developments, underscoring the profound impact of this incident on the entertainment industry.

Meanwhile, the command assures the public of a thorough investigation into the root cause of the accident and pledges to implement measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
