ELECTRICITY GENERATION in Nigeria has reached an all-time high of 5,543 megawatts (MW), marking a significant milestone in the country’s power sector.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed that the new peak was recorded at 11:00 p.m. on February 14, 2025, surpassing the previous day’s peak of 5,478.73MW.
In a statement released on Wednesday, TCN highlighted another major achievement—a new Maximum Daily Energy record of 125,159.48 megawatt-hours (MWh).
This figure exceeded the previous record of 121,674.88MWh set on February 7, 2025, by 3,484.60MWh.
The transmission network successfully delivered the generated power to distribution companies across the country for onward supply to consumers.
The development reflects ongoing efforts by the federal government to stabilise and expand electricity supply.
In May 2024, Nigeria’s power generation exceeded 5,000MW for the first time in three years. By July, it had risen to 5,105MW. Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, had previously set a target of 6,000MW by the end of 2024.
