Ogun Govt Advances Naval Base Development, Rebukes CUPP Over Allegations

By Rosheedat Akinkunle, JKNewsMedia Reporter

GOVERNOR DAPO Abiodun has announced progress in the establishment of a Naval Base at Ode-Omi in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

He said the state has allocated land for the project, waiving billions in dues and forwarding the Certificate of Occupancy (CoO) to the Nigerian Navy headquarters.

Speaking from his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Governor confirmed that formalities had been completed, and the road leading to the base would be ready by the weekend.

He also highlighted the strategic importance of the Naval Base and Dockyards, noting that a groundbreaking ceremony is imminent.

Governor Abiodun pointed out that Ogun’s coastal positioning, with features like Tongeji Island in Ipokia Local Government and the Olokola Deep Sea Port in Ogun Waterside, enhances its maritime significance.

He also hyped the state’s potential to become an oil-producing region, citing recent visits from the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission and the Ministry of Petroleum as promising indicators.

Rear Admiral Oamen of the Nigerian Navy commended Governor Abiodun for his unwavering support and pledged to enhance maritime security in Ogun’s coastal areas.

The Governor further reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering a strong relationship with the Nigerian Navy to safeguard the state’s waterways and improve security.

Rebukes CUPP Over Allegations

Meanwhile, in a significant development, allegations levelled by the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) against the Ogun State Government have raised concerns about the motives of the de-registered political group.

The government has described CUPP’s activities as baseless agitation driven by financial desperation, urging the coalition to engage in lawful and productive endeavours instead of maligning state officials.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier disbanded CUPP-affiliated parties for their redundancy and lack of popularity, citing their existence as a hindrance to political progress.

Despite this, CUPP continues to criticise Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, a move the government perceives as an attempt to coerce financial favours.

Officials emphasised that Ogun State remains focused on growth and development rather than indulging in political distractions.
