THE OGUN State government has called on insurance companies to oversee construction projects and enforce risk management laws for contractors and property owners.
This was revealed during a stakeholders meeting held at the Olusegun Osoba Press Centre, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Wednesday.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olatunji Odunlami, stated that contractors must obtain an All-Risk Insurance Policy Certificate for construction projects exceeding two floors.
The policy covers human and material assets, site workers, passersby, and adjacent properties throughout the construction period.
Odunlami advised homeowners to acquire Building Insurance Policies to avoid future losses, stressing the government’s dedication to public safety and reducing construction accidents.
Engr. Sakirudeen Salaam, the Permanent Secretary, highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and insurance companies.
A representative from the insurance sector, Yomi Babalola, expressed readiness to partner with the government to ensure compliance with the law.
Odunlami emphasized the mandatory nature of the policy for construction above two floors.
Ogun government says it aims to enhance public safety, reduce construction accidents, and foster a culture of risk management in the state.
