Ogun State Power Project Nears Completion, Promises 24-Hour Supply in 8 Weeks

By Rosheedat Akinkunle, JKNewsMedia Reporter

Residents of Ogun State can soon expect a major boost in power supply, as Governor Dapo Abiodun confirmed that the 30-Megawatt power plant in Onijanganjangan, near Ewekoro, will be ready for commissioning in just eight weeks.

His announcement follows the Governor’s inspection of the plant, which marks the first phase of the Ogun State Light Up project.

He said the plant aims to deliver uninterrupted power to major towns and cities within the state, with Abeokuta set to see substantial improvements, though not the entire city initially.

Governor Abiodun expressed confidence in the quality of work at the site and assured that the plant will use diesel in addition to compressed gas to ensure steady operation, even during gas supply disruptions.

The power plant, he further said, will supply regular electricity to government and educational institutions as well as private industries, as part of Ogun State’s effort to take control of power generation, distribution, and transmission following its exclusion from the federal government’s power list.

He also announced that further plants will be built in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ota.

Additionally, the Ogun State House of Assembly has passed legislation to establish the Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

This new body will oversee the power sector, ensuring proper supervision of anyone entering the industry within the state.

Project manager Mr. Selvin Leo also confirmed that the power plant is 90 per cent complete, with materials on-site to ensure timely completion.
