THE APPROVAL for significant infrastructure projects aimed at revitalising the Asaba capital territory and Warri was granted by Delta State’s government.

Announced at the 2025 State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting, this decision marks a key step in the state’s urban renewal plans.

These initiatives are set to enhance connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and drive urban transformation in some of the state’s most vital areas.

Chief Patrick Ukah, Director General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), expressed his enthusiasm over the project approvals, highlighting that they will have a lasting impact on road infrastructure in the state.

He said the government has also identified a range of projects that will reshape key parts of the capital territory, including the Umejei Road in Ibusa and the Okpanam Township Road.

Ukah added that work on a 2.6-kilometre road from the Road Safety office to BONSAC, along with new roads linking to Achalla Ibusa Road, will also significantly improve transportation in the area.

He further assured residents that the ongoing projects will provide vital infrastructure improvements.

Some projects had faced delays due to upward reviews, but Ukah confirmed that about eight projects have now received approval, with contractors mobilising to resume work on-site.

“Before now, several projects were stalled. However, under this administration, the contractors are returning to the sites, and we are confident that the delays will soon be a thing of the past,” he said.

Notable among these projects are major road improvements crossing Ogbeogonogo Market and Odilison, which have now received the green light for construction.

Ukah stressed that the transformation of the capital city has already begun under the MORE agenda, with a renewed focus on making Asaba a more modern and accessible city.

In Warri, the government is focusing on the restoration of all major roads in the commercial hub.

Prince Godwin Ejinyere, Director-General of Warri, Uvwie, and Environs, revealed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has ordered a comprehensive overhaul of Warri’s roads, aiming to eliminate poor road conditions and enhance urban development.

Ejinyere emphasised that the road rehabilitation efforts are not politically motivated but are designed to improve the lives of all residents.

“Warri will truly be great again as promised by the governor. We are working to reconstruct, maintain, and improve all bad roads within Warri and its environs,” he stated.

Additionally, the EXCO meeting approved an expansion of the stormwater project in Warri, aimed at addressing the persistent flooding issues that occur during the rainy season.

The project, which was initially awarded in April 2024, will now include additional works to accommodate the growing needs of the city.

Ejinyere explained that the rising cost of construction materials had led to an upward review of the scope, ensuring that the project meets the demands of a modern city.

“This job has been expanded to cover many more areas in Warri, and it will help prevent flooding during the rainy season,” Ejinyere said.

He concluded by expressing gratitude on behalf of Warri residents for the governor’s commitment to the city’s growth and development.
