WAEC Dismisses Viral Cancellation Claim, Confirms 2025 WASSCE Results Coming August 4

FALSE REPORTS claiming the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) had been cancelled have been firmly debunked by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, as the body moves to release candidates’ results by Thursday, August 4.

The widely circulated hoax, which gained traction on social media on Saturday, July 19, alleged that the Federal Ministry of Education and WAEC had scrapped the entire 2025 examination over mass malpractice, question paper leaks, and unauthorised digital sharing of exam content.

Swiftly, WAEC has countered the report the following day, branding the claim misleading, untrue, and engineered by individuals intent on creating public anxiety.

A statement signed by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, stressed that no such cancellation had taken place and that the information in circulation did not originate from the Council.

“The said examination has not been cancelled,” the statement affirmed, urging stakeholders to ignore the misinformation.

The Council also disclosed that it had completed the marking of all scripts and assured candidates that results would be available by August 4.

“Our attention has been drawn to a press statement alleging the cancellation of all the papers written during the just concluded WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025,” the Council stated.

“The WAEC management would like to state unequivocally that the spurious press statement being circulated did not emanate from the Council.”

WAEC reiterated that all official updates are issued solely through its verified social media channels, recognised national media outlets, and the Public Affairs Department.

All authentic press releases, the Council noted, are signed by authorised WAEC officials.

The organisation called on candidates, parents, schools, and the general public to remain calm and disregard the circulating misinformation.
