2025AFCON: Cameroon Survives Ivorian Raid As Own Goal Gives 1-1 Draw

…Mozambique Makes Historical Win in 17 AFCON Games Beat Gabon 3-2.

FIVE TIMES African Champions in 22 appearances at the mundial winning in 1984, 1988, 2000, 2002 and 2017., The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 57 were on Sunday night in Marakesh Morocco held to a 1-1 draw by three times African Champions the Elephants of Ivory Coast ranked 42 in 26 appearances in a pulsating match.

Amad Diallo scored first for the Elephants in the 51st minute from defender Ghislain Konan connect but Cameroon equalized by default as the Elephant’s move is slow and sluggish which was what made Konan who supplied the assist for the Elephants goal to score a painful own goal in the 56th minute.

Both sides before today met 11 times each country winning 4 matches with 3 draws scoring 27 goals with the Lions scoring 14.

Earlier the Mambas of Mozambique made history winning their first match in 17 trials at AFCON beating the Panthers of Gabon 3-2 also in group F. Mozambique never went beyond the group stages in their six appearances whereas Gabon in their 9th appearance made quarterfinal twice in 1996 and 2012.

At Agadir on Sunday evening, Faisal Bangal opened scoring for Mozambique in the 37th minute from Catamo assist. Genny Catamo himself made it 2-0 from the penalty spot at the 42nd minute and star boy former Arsenal Captain, Pierre Aubameyang scored for Gabon in a VAR approved at the 45+5 minute after missing several chances at goal scoring.

On resumption of the 2nd half, Diogo Calila got a telepathic pass from Witi in the 52nd minute to make it 3-1 but defender Kevin Moussonda came rampaging with a goal in the 76th minute to make final scores at 3 to Mozambique and 2 to Gabon which made the Mambas pop wine.

Cameroon temporarily leads group F with 4 points scoring 2 goals and conceding one same configuration with Ivory Coast in 2nd position; Mozambique is 3rd with 3 points scoring 3 goals and conceding 3 while Gabon goes to the Exit Door without a point scored 2 goals and conceded 4. The group is very much open.

On New Year’s Eve 31st December at 8.00pm when most Christians all over the world will be in transits for Cross Over to year 2026 services, Gabon will face Ivory Coast who are desperate for an easy Knockout stage ticket and Mozamique will try their luck for a second ever AFCON win against Cameroon which will be a Herculean task.

Both matches will be played simultaneously.

Group B opens the last group matches tomorrow Monday at 5.00pm when simultaneously Zimbabwe battles Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a familiar foe encounter while Angola lines up against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

Hosts Morocco will pray hard to beat desperate Zambia as Group A closes at 8.00pm also tomorrow Monday same time ousted Comoros will play for prestige against Eagles of Mali in same group.
