THE ELEPHANTS of Ivory Coast on New Year’s Eve while many countries were already chanting HAPPY NEW YEAR made a fantastic come back to beat and send off Gabon from the AFCON tournament in Marrakesh 3-2 in group F final group match.
Gabon had scored her two goals within the first 25 minutes feeling good for a first win in the tournament as Guelor Kanga scored first in the 11th minute before a crowd of 20,838 fans and then Denis Bouanga scored again in the 21st minute.
But then the Elephants pinched by the sharp object of two goals got shouting with a goal scored in the 44th minute when senior man, Wilfred Zaha got the ball to Jean Krasso who scored Elephant’s first goal.
Evan Guessand who came in for Zaha in the 68th minute got a Moss Code pass from Christopher Operi to score the 2nd goal in the 84th minute before Operi again gave his second assist to 19 year old substitute who came also in the 68th minute, Bazoumana Toure to score in 90+1 minute.
VAR rejected what would have been the 4th goal to Ivory Coast by Yari Diomande in 90+6th minute.
Lions of Cameroon also made a gracious come back at Agadir to beat Mozambique 2-1.
Defender Nanani got Geny Catamo to score for Mozambique in the 23rd minute but an own goal my Mozambique’s Mid fielder, Nene who plays for Black Bulls FC got the equalizer for Cameroon in the 16th minute only for a lone strike by Bayern Leverkusen’s Christian Koffonne in the 55th minute to give the Cameroonians victory.

Ivory Coast topped group F with 7 points scoring 5 goals and conceding 3; Cameroon came 2nd also with 7 points with 4 goals and conceded 2; Mozambique managed a good 3rd position with 3 position scoring 4 goals and conceding 5 to set up a R16 face off against Nigeria while Gabon quietly went home without a single point scoring 4 goals and conceding 7.
