FALCONETS OF Nigeria looks set to fly over Columbia into the 4th ever semifinal in the world U20 Women’s Football tournament on Sunday at 2.00pm.
The Power Puff Girls who probably took their name from children’s famous cartoon series are no match for the Falconets of Nigeria when records are considered.
On current forms per performance at the Poland tournament, Nigeria scored 13 goals, conceded 3 goals and have kept 2 clean slates (not conceding a goal in 2 matches) whereas Columbia scored 4 goals conceded 4 goals and has 1 clean slate.
This means Nigeria will “kayoed” Columbia with a pinfall during regulation time with goals more so with a defence that conceded an average one goal per match.
The Power Puff Girls nipped debutants host Poland by a goal, lost to North Korea 0-3, played goalless with Portugal and beat Costa Rica 3-1. Falconets caused the Lionesses of England to lose jungle king status 3-0, handcuffed New Caledonia 10-1, played goalless with China but lost 0-2 to Spain.
Both teams met once on 29th July 2010 at the world cup and Nigeria won by a lone goal.
A Nigerian football coach said now that Nigeria has found her scoring ability, they will surpass the biggest defeat Columbia ever got on 29th January 2014 at Fray Bantus in Uruguay which was Brazil 6 Columbia 0. We know with these goal hungry girls Nigeria will win by some 4-1.
Columbia is appearing at the party for the 4th time. They made 4th position in 2010 and lost at the quarterfinals twice in 2022 and 2024. This means they could be dangerous if underrated like England did to Nigeria and regretted the physical football prowess of Nigeria.
Nigeria appearing at all the 12 tournaments have become veterans twice runners-up in 2012 and 2016, 4th in 2014 and five times quarterfinalists in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2020 and 2022.
The winner of the Sunday encounter will move into the semifinal to stretch legs with the winner of the match between defending champions North Korea and Canada on Wednesday at 5:30pm.
