…Nigeria’s Chukwu scores a brace for Canada in 6-0 win over Tanzania.
THE SAMBA girls of Brazil on Friday at the Bielsko Biala stadium in Poland scored a late goal against the Young Lionesses of England to Clinch the top position of Group B at the 2026 World women’s U20 Football Cup with a 2-1 Win.
Gisele Vale Silva dashed the English hope for a drawn game when she scored a crucial and painful goal 90+5 from an Evelin pass. England scored first in the 31st minute through Lily Dent who on an assist by Rachael Maltby dented the Brazilian defence before Chloe Hylton foiled in the box and Clarinha scored a penalty to equalize in the 76th minute.
The tiki-taka flow of Brazilian football was missing as the Samba girls could not dominate the game making 40-60% ball possessions and stringed 270-416 passes but strategised on scoring with 13-8 shots at goal having 8-2 on target and 8-3 corner kick advantage but the Brazilians were rough as Ref Allysa Rennigton blew them 18-5 foul calls and flashed them the only two yellow cards in the match.
Both countries met twice before in a friendly on 9th December 2017 when England won by a lone goal and at the world cup of 8th August 2018 when they drew 1-1.
Nigeria’s Annabelle Chukwu playing for Canada covered the stars of the Twiga Stars of Tanzania with a brace in a 6-0 lashing. Chukwu scored Canada’s 3rd and 4th goals in the 54th and 66th minutes.
Ester Maseka of Tanzania scored an own goal in the 7th minute, Olivia Chislom made it 2 for Canada while Kayle Hunter scored the 5th goal in the 76th minute and Liana Texasco topped it up in the 88th minute.
Brazil topped group B with maximum 9 points, England technically got the 2nd position with 4 points and +3 goals difference just like Canada while Tanzania goes home with no point and a nontransferable -13 goals deficit.
Brazil will play her Round of 16 match on Wednesday 16th September at 2pm; England as group Runners up will play hers on Thursday 17th also at 2.00pm but hosts Poland coming from group A with 6 points already and about now playing their last group games is already scheduled to play her round of 16 match on Thursday 17th September at 5:30pm.
Group A 3rd round matches are ongoing while Groups C and D will be decided tomorrow Saturday.
