IMO EAST’s push for indigenous political representation, greater accountability and community empowerment is gaining attention ahead of the 2027 general election, with African Action Congress (AAC) candidate Gerald O. Katchy outlining his ambition to represent the senatorial district.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that Katchy, who is seeking to represent Imo East Senatorial District, also known as Owerri Zone, says the people must reclaim control of their identity, resources, political representation and collective destiny rather than allow others to determine their future.
Drawing on the words of renowned Nigerian author Chinua Achebe, who argued that people without their own stories risk becoming characters in someone else’s narrative, the candidate stressed the importance of allowing communities to define their interests and shape their political future.
Also, welcoming November as a month of hope, faith and anticipated victory, Katchy expressed gratitude to God, describing divine mercy as central to the journey ahead.
He also acknowledged the contributions of family members, friends, colleagues, political associates and supporters, whose prayers, sacrifices and solidarity, he said, had sustained the movement.
Referencing Romans 9:16, he maintained that ultimate victory rests with God rather than human effort alone.
Katchy also cited the biblical parable of the labourers in the vineyard in Matthew 20:6-12 to emphasise that divine favour is not determined by how early or late a person’s journey begins.
He said he is presenting himself as an engineer, human rights activist, farmer, philanthropist and media personality from Ahiazu Mbaise in Imo State who had served in various capacities including being the National Coordinator of the INAHURAT and National Secretary of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR).
He notes that his stated public-interest record includes defending widows, children and victims of alleged police brutality and extortion, as well as campaigning for democratic accountability and the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
He also highlights his involvement in resolving local disputes and supporting efforts to rescue kidnapped citizens as part of his community security advocacy.
In the media, Katchy says he has regularly featured on platforms including JKNewsMedia, Radio Nigeria, African Independent Television (AIT), Channels Television and News Central, to mention a few.
JKNewsMedia.com also reports that making the case for his Senate ambition, Katchy argues that Imo East needs an accessible and independent-minded representative who will prioritise the interests of ordinary residents.
He identifies youth security, public accountability and the protection of marginalised communities as central concerns, insisting that effective representation must go beyond occupying political office.
He reveals that his proposed 2027 agenda centres on indigenous participation through four priorities: thinking indigenous, producing indigenous, empowering indigenous and securing indigenous interests.
Katchy also said his campaign frames its broader political message around justice, identity, representation and self-determination, with Katchy calling on supporters to sustain their commitment to the movement.
Closing his November message with the rallying call: “Dare to Struggle! Dare to Win!”, he said he is expressing confidence that victory will come through God’s mercy.
