AS POLITICAL and institutional stakeholders communicate their goals and intentions about the 2027 elections, our tracking has also found that individuals, especially digitally savvy citizens and other nationals, are exploring digital platforms to gain more information about campaign and policy issues.
While our previous tracking of conventional and social media platforms has shown that candidates and political parties are mostly discussing the economy and security, our tracking of the public’s information-seeking behaviour reveals that education and security are the issues prioritised within a month of campaign activities.
Our analysts note that this indicates some level of congruence between stakeholders’ and citizens’ interests ahead of the elections. It also reveals the pattern of information that conventional media are focusing on for the public to see as important as the elections draw closer.
Every stakeholder is further enjoined to prioritise and consistently communicate clear, relevant, and evidence-based positions on issues of national and regional importance, particularly those attracting public interest, to support informed public engagement ahead of the elections.
