AN ELECTORAL system cannot be strengthened or made effective for conducting peaceful and credible elections when actors continually seek to undermine the processes required for the effective functioning of every part of the system.
In this regard, we take our tracking much further by tracing the human and non-human actors that stakeholders have considered, and are still discussing, as influential in strengthening or weakening Nigeria’s electoral system ahead of the 2027 elections.
Our tracking specifically reveals conversations that establish the need to strengthen electoral governance more than other sub-systems. Despite this positive outcome, our analysis shows a moderately significant negative impact of actors’ activities on the electoral governance sub-system.
One of the striking outcomes is that actors undermining electoral justice, electoral peace and security are more numerous than those acting with the same commitment towards inclusive participation and information integrity.
In all, our tracking points out that electoral governance and inclusive participation are comparatively stronger in terms of having actors who seek to make positive contributions to the 2027 elections.
