FLIGHT OPERATIONS at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, were disrupted on Wednesday after an Allied Air Cargo aircraft skidded off Runway 22 following a tyre burst.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:05 am and involved a plane with registration number 5N-JRT.

According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), five passengers were onboard when the incident happened.

All were safely evacuated and taken to the FAAN clinic for medical assessment. No injuries were reported.

FAAN spokesperson Mrs Obiageli Orah confirmed that the runway was temporarily closed to facilitate the removal of the aircraft and to ensure safety.

Emergency response teams and accident investigators were promptly deployed to the scene.

The disruption caused delays in departures as airport officials worked to clear the runway.

FAAN has assured the public that the runway will be reopened as soon as operations are deemed safe.

In a statement, FAAN expressed gratitude to the aviation community and passengers for their patience and urged the public to refrain from speculation until the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) releases a preliminary report.
