Accugas Limited Refutes Claims of Involvement in Akwa Ibom Power Outage

A SUBSIDIARY of Savannah Energy, Accugas Limited, has denied allegations linking it to the ongoing power outage in Akwa Ibom State.

The company clarified that the outage is due to a fault in the 132-KV Aba-Itu transmission line, which has disrupted power transmission from the National Grid to the state.

In a statement, Accugas emphasized the urgency of restoring the Aba-Itu line, which is critical to resuming power supply.

The company explained that Ibom Power Company (IPC), to which it has been supplying gas since 2014, is one of 23 thermal power generation companies contributing electricity to the National Grid.

Accugas supplies gas supporting approximately 20% of Nigeria’s thermal power generation capacity, making it a vital contributor to the nation’s energy sector.

The company noted its significant investments in Akwa Ibom State, including over $1.5 billion in gas development projects and a recent $45 million gas compression project at its Uquo central processing facility in Esit Eket.

The company also highlighted its commitment to social investment projects in Akwa Ibom State and assured continued collaboration with the state government to advance its economic development agenda.

Accugas reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Nigeria’s energy infrastructure and contributing to the prosperity of Akwa Ibom State.
