Analysts Urge Removal of Viral AI Content Threatening Nigeria’s 2027 Elections

News Introduction:

Analysts tracking AI-generated content ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections have recommended removing viral posts that demean individuals and institutions or threaten credible and peaceful polls, urging social media platforms to support the effort.

Report:

ONE OF the key aspects of artificial intelligence-generated content ahead of the 2027 elections is its virality, which is largely supported by social media algorithms.

In line with this, our analysts’ tracking of content virality has led to a recommendation to unpublish content with high virality, characterised by significant spread across digital platforms.

Most of the content recommended for unpublishing demeans individuals and institutions, as well as undermines the conduct of credible and peaceful elections.

Unpublishing is also recommended for content with low and moderate virality, despite falling within the lowest virality categories.

However, our analysts note that removing this content from social media platforms will require significant support from platform owners and a commitment to credible and peaceful elections in Nigeria.
