COMMEMORATION PLANS advanced as the Tunji Braithwaite Foundation (TBF) concluded arrangements for the 10th memorial anniversary of Dr Tunji Braithwaite scheduled for Saturday 2 May 2026 at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the event will feature the unveiling of a commemorative book written by Mr Muyiwa Akintunde, a senior journalist, editor, publisher and Public Relations consultant, focusing on the social justice and human rights advocacy of the late legal practitioner.
A statement issued by the convener, Mr. Akintunde, noted that Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu is expected to grace the occasion as Special Guest of Honour.
Akintunde’s book highlights Braithwaite’s position that “rights and privileges shouldn’t be the prerogative of only the nouveau riche, but must also be available to the plebeian.”
Bearing the theme: “Politics with Conscience: Leadership, Responsibility, and the Nigerian Social Contract, the book also captures Braithwaite’s commitment to defending the oppressed through his legal career.
Akintunde writes, “His relentless fight on the side of what was just and true resonates in this book. Even in the face of the gun, he never buckled. For him, evil would never triumph with the will and determination to do the right things.”
Braithwaite died on 28 March 2016 at the age of 82, and so, the book was conceived by the TBF team to celebrate his bravery amongst others.
It will be reviewed by Prof Anthony Kila, Director of the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS).
Chief Bisi Akande, former Governor of Osun State, will chair the occasion, while Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu will serve as Chief Host. Also, Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, will attend as Guest of Honour, the press statement notes.
