FAKE REGISTRATION numbers, forged incorporation documents, and unauthorised business operations have triggered a public alert from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), warning Nigerians to steer clear of three allegedly fraudulent cooperative societies.
SPEF Cooperative Society Ltd, UPIL Staff Cooperative Society Ltd, and PREM Staff Cooperative Society Ltd were named in an official statement on Monday for operating with fake certificates of incorporation and fabricated registration numbers.
The commission said it uncovered that each of these entities was using two different RC numbers, none of which exist in its official registry.
According to the CAC, SPEF Cooperative Society Ltd falsely operated with RC numbers 1265884 and 512862; UPIL Staff Cooperative Society Ltd used RC 1265837 and RC 553220; while PREM Staff Cooperative Society Ltd listed RC 1265844 and RC 545901 – none recognised in the commission’s database.
The commission warned that any individual or institution transacting with these organisations does so at their own peril, urging the public to always verify incorporation details through its official portal before entering into any agreement.
The warning came as the CAC announced a significant digital advancement to boost transparency and service delivery.
On July 3, the commission launched an AI-powered portal enabling real-time name reservations, instant business-name suggestions, and same-day registration using a National Identification Number (NIN).
As part of broader reforms, the CAC said it will also implement a review of its service fees from August 1, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of its services.
