A SEVERE rainfall accompanied by strong winds early Thursday morning led to a ceiling collapse at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The incident occurred in the Amphitheatre of Oduduwa Hall, where students were attending a lecture in the SER class. The falling ceiling injured several students.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, along with other principal officers, promptly visited the University’s Medical and Health Centre to ensure that the injured students received proper medical care.

According to a statement by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, the Vice-Chancellor also personally escorted two students with more serious injuries to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC).

There, Chief Medical Director Professor John Okeniyi oversaw their treatment.

The Vice-Chancellor has called for calm and urged students and staff to continue their academic and administrative duties without disruption. In response to the incident, the University management has sealed off the Amphitheatre until further notice to ensure safety and prevent any further accidents.
