DIMINUTIVE KANSAS City Forward, Temwa Chawinga of Malawi bagged the Golden Boot for the highest scorer of the WAFCON 2026 tournament with 5 goals snatching the coveted award mostly won by Nigerian players like legendary African female Football of the year, Asisat Lamina.
Oshoala. Her rivals who equally scored 5 goals in the tournament are Ines Konan of Ivory Coast, Barbra Banda of Zambia and Marie Ngah of Cameroon.
The captain of Cameroon who plays for Washington Spirit, Monique Ngock emerged as the Player of the Tournament lifting the Golden Ball while his Goalkeeper who Cameroon brought into the tournament from the quarterfinal stages that kept a clean slate not conceding a single goal in regular play except at the penalty shootouts and who saved four penalty kicks against hosts Morocco now called “The witch that dwells among the upright posts”, Michaely Bihima who man’s the goal post for Benefica Women took away the Golden Gloves for the Best Goalkeeper.
The Fennecs of Algeria got the FAIR PLAY TROPHY while erstwhile favourite countries like Nigeria, hosts Morocco, Ghana and South Africa went empty handed.
Cameroon pocketed $2m for winning their 1st title, Malawi got $750k for being runners up, Algeria got $500k and Morocco received $350 for placing 4th while other countries got various amounts depending on their placement at the tournament.
This is the third time Morocco is hosting WAFCON tournament back-to-back and they still missed winning the title getting only two runners up positions in 2022 and 2024.
