Cocaine Hidden In Mortar, Backpack Bound For China, Italy Intercepted In Lagos

COCAINE CONCEALED in a local mortar and the false bottom of a backpack destined for China and Italy has been intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) through a logistics company in Lagos.

JKNewsMedia.com reports that the seizures were made by officers of the Directorate of Operation and General Investigations on Thursday 30 July 2026.

They included 250g of cocaine factory fitted into the base of a local mortar packed in a carton for export to China and 500g of cocaine concealed in the false bottom of a backpack being shipped to Italy.

In Rivers State, NDLEA operatives arrested a 38-year-old suspected drug dealer, Ugo Gift Okonkwo, at Eagle Island, Port Harcourt, following credible intelligence.

He was arrested on Sunday 26 July with quantities of cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, swinol, tramadol and codeine syrup.

Officers on stop and search duty at DMGS Roundabout, Onitsha, Anambra State, on Monday 27 July intercepted a truck marked XK 131 BDG carrying 26,000 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 3,960kg. The driver, Chinedu Nwanze, 40, was arrested.

In Delta State, NDLEA officers recovered 331.84kg of skunk from a Toyota Sienna bus with registration number KUJ 26 DV along the Kwale Ughelli Expressway on Sunday 26 July.

In Nasarawa State, operatives arrested 64 year old Joseph Nwaeke on Tuesday 28 July at Asso Angwan Muazu in the Karu area with 68kg of skunk and 29g of methamphetamine.

NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Zaria Gusau Highway in Zamfara on Monday 27 July also intercepted Sani Umar, 27, conveying 7,400 pills of tramadol 225mg suspected to be supplies for criminal elements.

JKNewsMedia.com also reports that the agency said its commands and formations continued War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation activities across schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities during the past week, including programmes at Hausawa Special Primary School, Kano, Royal Crown School, Oluyole, Ibadan, Government Secondary School, Ibi, Taraba State, and Challenge Bus Terminal Park in Ibadan.

NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa, retired, commended officers of the Directorate of Operation and General Investigations and the Rivers, Anambra, Delta, Nasarawa and Zamfara commands for the operations and urged them to continue the agency’s balanced approach to drug control efforts.
