CALLS TO prioritise practical water solutions took centre stage as a Nigerian led Pan African delegation urged the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN) to stop politicising water during the 12th session of the UN Economic Commission for Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (UNECARFSD) in Addis Ababa.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the Pan African AU Agenda 2063 Diplomatic Mission (PAAUADM) led by Dr Stephen Ben Joel, focused on job creation and economic growth through science-based solutions during the session.
Dr. Ben Joel directed attention to water, stating that the human body is over 70 percent water and stressing that access to clean water is a humanitarian priority rather than a political bargaining tool.
The mission stated that it has moved beyond advocacy and is funding borehole drilling and water treatment projects across African communities.
New water projects are scheduled to be launched during Africa Day celebrations in Abuja this May.
The delegation appealed to the African Union for institutional openness and urged collaboration with organisations demonstrating field impact rather than those focused on grant proposals.
Dr. Ben Joel said the group’s participation reflects its commitment towards Africa’s transformation.
