DELTA STATE GOVERNOR Sheriff Oborevwori has delivered a stern message to the State Civil Service Commission (SCSC), urging them to address the issue of ghost workers, which has led to absenteeism and the abandonment of duty posts among civil servants.

Oborevwori issued this directive during the swearing-in and inauguration ceremony of Chief Roseline Amioku as Chairman, CSC, Barr. Ikechukwu Maduemezia as a member of the CSC, and Mr. Ukpaka Ikenna as the Auditor General for Local Government, held at the Government House in Asaba.

Expressing concern over civil servants exploiting study leave with pay to permanently relocate abroad, Oborevwori emphasized the need for a proactive approach to tackle this challenge.

In addition to the inauguration of the Civil Service Commission members, the governor also inaugurated the governing councils of various institutions and parastatals, including the Delta State Investment Development Agency (DIDA), Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, and several others.

Addressing the gathering, Oborevwori reiterated the crucial role of the civil service in implementing government policies and programs. He stressed the importance of efficiency, professionalism, and accountability within the civil service to drive development in the state.

He outlined key expectations for the CSC, including the recruitment of competent personnel through transparent processes, disciplining erring officers without bias, and initiating a values reorientation exercise to combat systemic issues within the civil service.

Directing his remarks to the newly appointed Auditor-General for Local Government, Mr. Ukpaka Ikenna, Oborevwori emphasized the importance of integrity, independence, and professionalism in executing duties.

In response, General Alexander Ogomudia (retd), Chairman of the Governing Council of Delta State University, Abraka, expressed gratitude to Oborevwori for the opportunity to serve and pledging the commitment of all appointees to fulfilling their duties with dedication and professionalism.

The ceremony was attended by prominent government dignitaries, including Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori, the Deputy Governor of the State, Sir Monday Onyeme, and the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, among others.
