DELTA STATE Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, emphasized his administration’s selective approach in engaging with investors, stressing they would collaborate only with companies committed to the state’s development.
Speaking at Government House in Asaba during a meeting with Metwest Steel Limited representatives, Oborevwori laid out specific requirements for the proposed partnership, particularly for the Kwale Industrial Park project within Delta’s Free Trade Zone.
He also voiced concerns about investors prioritizing personal gain over community impact.
He underscored the need for transparent agreements, where each party’s contributions are clear.
He affirmed that his administration would ensure investors meet all stipulated timelines and provide concrete benefits, including job creation, before state equity contributions are made.
“Investors must come prepared with timeframes and actionable plans to make progress swift,” he said.
Metwest Steel Chairman, Mr. Arun Goswami, assured the governor of the company’s readiness to commence operations within eight months if supported.
Goswami highlighted the project’s potential for economic growth, estimating 500 initial jobs and up to 7,000 direct jobs over six years, along with indirect opportunities.
The company aims to enhance Delta’s revenue through increased local industrial activity and position the state as an energy-based industrial hub.
